This qualifies as one of the 72 “Greatest” Moments in NBA History

The year was 2009. Barack Obama had taken office. The economy was still a train wreck. And the NBA had hitched its stagecoach wagon firmly to the LeBron and Kobe Clydesdales.

When I tell you the late ‘00s NBA was desperately hoping for a Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers Finals, that’s the understatement of the new millenium.

Nike, essentially a marketing arm for the NBA, was pumping out horrific MVPuppets commercials all year long. You don’t something this routinely awful unless you’re hooked on a narcotic. And wishing for that Cavs-Lakers, LeBron-Kobe Finals was a narcotic for the NBA and Nike.
