I'd like to know the context of this clip, because I doubt that Braun shot all his FT like this. I wonder if it was at the end of the game or something, based on the scramble for the ball after the shot.

Braun shot .804 FT% for his career. That's higher than the career FT% of LeBron, Wade, Westbrook, Iverson, Giannis, Luka, plus many, many others (including basically every great C or PF, save Dirk).

I can provide context! It was his first FT attempt in the first quarter; only a couple minutes into the game. Braun almost exclusively shot free throw's that way. The underhanded method was commonly used back then. Braun, who also popularized the jump shot (and would consistently shoot 20-30 feet from the rim at a 35-40% clip), felt that using an overhand approach would lead to higher free throw percentages.

The crane motion, which he used for roughly a decade, was used to balance his body.

The Twitter thread attached actually went into detail about how Braun kickstarted the evolution of the jump shot. The initial tweet was humor to catch folks' attention. Rangoola, noted by Curtis above, bastardized the whole thread by trying to knock Boston sports.
